How the Radar works
The Radar combines two signals and shows the stronger one for each state and trade.
- Live weather alerts. Active alerts from the National Weather Service, read directly from its public data feed and refreshed each time the page loads. Each alert is mapped to the trades it usually drives and weighted by type (warning, watch, advisory) and severity.
- Seasonality. A month-by-month demand pattern for each trade, adjusted for climate (for example, pest demand runs higher in southern states, and freeze-driven plumbing demand higher in northern ones).
What the levels mean
- Normal: no active drivers and not a seasonal high.
- Seasonal peak: one of the busiest months of the year for that trade there.
- Rising: at least one relevant weather alert is active.
- Surge: a strong alert (a warning at severe level or several alerts together) is active.

Limits
The Radar shows where calls are likely to rise. It is not a count of calls and not a guarantee. Alerts cover weather-driven demand; pest and remodeling demand come from seasonality only. If the weather feed is unavailable, the Radar says so and shows the seasonal model.
